THEY MUST HEAR
“For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”
Joshua 2:10, 11
This was the testimony of Rahab to the two spies that Joshua sent into the city of Jericho. She and her people had heard about the mighty God of Israel and how He fought for His people. They “heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea” and what God “did unto the two kings of the Amorites.” The things they heard caused their hearts to melt and their courage to disappear. The things they heard convinced them that “the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”
The inhabitants of Canaan, and Jericho in particular, learned to fear God because of the things they heard. This should convince us all of the importance of people hearing about our God and the things He has done. This is one of the reasons there is such an absence of the fear of God in our society. Many people have never heard. They have never heard the true account of man’s origin and about the great Architect and Creator of the world we live in. They have been lied to and made to believe the false theory of evolution. Too many have never heard the truth about how the Bible and Christianity had such a profound influence on the founding of our nation. Perhaps millions in our beloved nation have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel and what Christ has done. They have never heard a personal testimony of the power of God’s grace in the life of a genuine Christian.
THEY MUST HEAR if they are going to believe. Many have heard lies and criticism, but have never heard the truth. If they are going to hear, we must tell them. We must tell them that our God is the God of the Bible, and the Creator of all that is. They need to hear what God has done in sending His Son to die for our sins. They need to know that Christ rose from the dead by the power of God. And they must hear what He has done for us personally. One of the most important things we can do to help our world is make sure they all have heard.
