GOD HEARD
“And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.” Exodus 2:23-25
Centuries had passed since the promise of food brought Jacob and his family to Egypt. Now Joseph was gone, and a king ruled in Egypt who had no sympathy for the children of Israel. The Egyptians treated the Israelites with extreme cruelty. God’s people cried out to Him because of their bondage, and “God heard their groaning.” God saw their sorrow and heard their desperate cries. He would send a deliverer. Moses would bring them out of their Egyptian slavery.
What a comforting testimony of the care of Almighty God! “God heard” them in their distress, and He hears us as well. When we cry out to God in our time of need, we can be confident that He will hear us. He hears our earnest petitions. Peter said it this way, “The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers” (I Peter 3:12). God watches over His children. We are never out of His sight or out of His care.
Satan would want us to doubt this wonderful truth. The devil would want us to think that God is not aware of our problems or interested in our difficulties. Nothing could be further from the truth. Because we are going through hard times does not mean that God has forsaken us. The fact that He has not delivered us from our affliction does not mean that He does not care. He loves us with an everlasting love. Nothing could keep God from hearing the pleas of the enslaved Israelites. There is no distance so great that God cannot hear. There is no valley so dark that He is not accessible. There is no situation that is so bleak that He cannot be reached.
Wherever you are today, God sees and He hears. He will hear your cry of desperation or your cry of confession. Whatever our need, He wants us to call out to Him. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). God knows what we need. Why not cry out to Him today?
