I HAVE FOUND A MAN
“Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.” Daniel 2:25
King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed a troubling dream, but forgot the dream. He called for magicians and sorcerers to interpret the dream, but without the details of the dream, they were helpless to give the meaning of it. The Chaldean magicians answered the king by saying, “There is not a man upon the earth”(Daniel 2:10) that would be able to interpret a dream without knowing what the dream was about. The king commanded that the wise men of Babylon be destroyed, including Daniel. However, Daniel prayed and God showed him the dream and the interpretation of it. Daniel told Arioch, the man who was commanded to kill the wise men, that he had the interpretation and desired to see the king. When Arioch brought Daniel before the king, his words to King Nebuchadnezzar were, “I have found a man…that will make known unto the king the interpretation.”
The wisest of the Babylonians could not give the king the information he needed. As a matter of fact, they were certain that such a man did not exist. And yet, God used Daniel to give the meaning the king needed. What a testimony this was to the Babylonians concerning the power and wisdom of God. Could we not assume that God wants to work in a similar way today? He wants to give His people wisdom, character, and ability that are beyond what the world has.
Whether we realize it or not, the world may be looking for men and women of superb character and extraordinary wisdom. Arioch was enthused to be able to report to the king, “I have found a man.” He found a man who had answers others did not have. We see many ways that the wise men of this world do not have the answers for the complex problems of our generation. They do not have answers for the challenges that face the homes of our nation, whether in the matters of marriage or child rearing.
So many are giving up on the basic foundations of life and society, stable homes and virtuous children. The world needs to see that old-fashioned values of morality still work. They need to see that our God and our Bible contain the wisdom that provides direction and hope in the most difficult of circumstances. May they find hope in God’s people.
