WHO IS LIKE UNTO THEE?

Pastor Thomas Smith   -

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” Exodus 15:11

There is no God but our God. The question asked twice in this verse is also presented other times in the Word of God: “Who is like unto thee?” Who is there that can be compared to the Almighty? The obvious answer is, “No one.” Our God is the living God, and there is none like Him. Our God had no beginning, existing from everlasting. The idols of the world are made of stone and wood, carved after the imaginations of fallen men. Our God is, always has been, and forevermore will be.

Our God made the worlds out of nothing, hung the sun and moon in space, and filled the great universe with stars and planets. Our God made the living creatures and created plant life. He made man in his complexity from the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Who can be compared to our Lord? Our God knows the beginning from the end and holds all things together by the word of His power. He sets boundaries for the oceans and measures the waters in the hollow of His hand. A sparrow never falls without His notice and His eyes are ever over the righteous.

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD?” Whose power could be compared to His power? He divided the sea and river that His people might pass through on dry land. He fed the great nation with manna from Heaven and quenched their thirst with water out of a rock. Our God protected and delivered His servants in a den of lions and a fiery furnace. Our God gave blind men their sight and lost men their lives. Our God cares about the outcast and is a Friend of sinners. He cleansed the lepers and caused the lame to leap. He fed thousands with a few loaves and fishes and caused the widow’s meal and oil to multiply.

Our God satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Our God is pure and holy, worthy of all praise. “Who is like unto thee?” Lord, there is none to compare to You. No one ever cared for us like You. You loved us when we were in our sins. You lifted us from the sin that enslaved us and set our captive souls free. Lord Jesus, You have done for us what no one else could have done. You have given us life and purpose. Lord, You have been a Friend, a Counselor, a Father, and the Healer of our broken lives. “Who is like unto thee?”
